Adopted as a Child of God

Adopted as a Child of God

Did you know that you have been adopted as a child of God? The Bible says that “When we receive Christ by faith, we have the privilege of becoming his children” (John 1:2) This is the status of all who claim Jesus as the lord and savior of their life. Both men and women, we can be the children of God. We are not children of God by our natural birth into the world, rather through faith in Jesus. We are made the children of God being born again in faith (Galatians 3:26). We are  blessed with the amazing right to be sons and daughters of God through the work of Jesus Christ. Salvation is that we are sinners and disconnected from God because of the sin we carry which is passed to us through the fall of man. Jesus Christ reconnects humanity through his death and resurrection which paid the price for our sin that we don’t have to endure the consequence of sin. If we believe that we are made right with the Father, through Jesus, then we are now adopted as children of the Heavenly Father. This right as a child of God positions us to enjoy all the privileges, blessings and inheritance of being God’s children. Here are some of the blessings we get to enjoy by being adopted as a Child of God.

First

We have a new identity in Christ. We are no longer slaves to sin and the wages of sin that are death. Rather, through faith in Christ Jesus we are now the Children of God.  Through the renewal that we find in Christ Jesus we are able to live lives that do not reflect who we used to be. Rather, we are able to find peace, provision, stability, etc. as a child of God living in His true holiness and righteousness. (Ephesians 4:22-24)

Second

We are able to have a relationship with the Heavenly Father. “The spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba!” Father. (Romans 8:15) Remember, before Christ, the relationship with God was limited, and not one of which we can have now as a father-son/-daughter connection. Since, we have this relationship with God to call Him “Abba”, we don’t have to worry about death. A part of the inheritance as children of God is access to eternity with God.

Third

The greatest right and privilege that we have in Christ is the Holy Spirit. “The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.” (Romans 8:16) That as children we get to have the Holy Spirit live in us. This means that we can be led by the Holy Spirit, protected by the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit will advocate for us. We get to access the same power that was in Christ, will now be in us. This gives us the power we need to walk in a new, transformed life and continue to grow in relationship with the Heavenly Father.

This plan was initiated by God

That we would be sons and daughters of God. (Ephesians 1:5) We understand the fullness of God’s plan and love for us through adoption, that we get to call ourselves Children of God. As family we are called in likeness; we can be our individual self but similar in that we walk and live in the way that is pleasing to our Father. This process is continual as we grow in faith and imitation of Christ.

Our duty to this family is to invite people who do not know God, to know God. That there will be more sons and daughters invited into the family and partake of the blessings. Life can be hard, it’s harder without God. Death can be scary, death can be scarier when we do not know where we are going next. Through faith in Christ we can be renewed, putting away the life we once had, to a life we can have with God. This family is the kingdom of God. The Kingdom is not limited in its invitation for any person. Rather, simply by confession of faith in Jesus Christ and change of heart toward God, we will have the right to call the almighty God, our Heavenly Father being united together in the kingdom of God.
