On Fire For God

It’s easy to come home from church and slip back into the mundane rhythms of everyday life. At church, we’re stirred up in the Spirit and on fire for God. But then we go home, we wake up to the same Monday morning routines, and suddenly, the flame can start to fade.

But we weren’t made for a life of dim faith. We’ve been called to live fully alive in Christ, fully on fire for God.

Let’s choose to keep the fire burning, not just on Sundays, but every day. We do this by intentionally positioning our hearts toward Jesus and living a life that reflects who He is.

So what does it mean to be “on fire for God”?

To be on fire for God means to have a deep and unwavering love for God. It describes someone who is fully devoted to living out their faith, someone whose relationship with God is apparent and active. It all starts with their heart’s position. The fire for God comes from a fully surrendered heart that’s positioned toward Jesus/

Some key aspects to consider for being on fire for God are:

Passionate Love for God

Seek Him daily through prayer, worship, and the Word, not out of obligation, but out of desire.

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” Matthew 22:37

Bold Faith

Not afraid to talk about your faith, stand for truth, or live differently. We need to love unashamed of the Gospel.

“Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.” Romans 12:11

A Changed Life

Your actions, words, and priorities reflect God’s character. You pursue holiness and continually grow spiritually.

“If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation…” 2 Corinthians 5:17

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is; his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2

Burden for Others to Know Jesus

You’re moved to pray for and reach out to people who don’t know God because your heart is aligned with His.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20

In short, being “on fire” isn’t about being perfect, it’s about being fully surrendered and actively walking with God. Keeping your heart postured toward God, staying in tune with the Holy Spirit and walking in obedience is what keeps the fire for God burning bright.

Do you ever find yourself slipping into that mundane routine, where the flame starts to fade? The passion you felt on Sunday begins to dim as the week goes on?

Take a moment to pause and pray. Let God reignite your heart and do a fresh work in your life so you can stay on fire for Him every day.

Prayer to Be On Fire for God

Father God,

I want to burn with a zeal for You. Rekindle the fire in my heart. Remove anything that distracts me from You or dulls my hunger for Your presence. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit, and help me to love You with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength.

Give me boldness to live out my faith, joy in spending time with You, and a burden for those who don’t yet know Your love. Let my life reflect Jesus in everything I say and do. Keep my heart soft and my spirit teachable.

Fan into flame the gift You’ve placed in me, Lord. I surrender everything again, and I choose to follow You fully devoted and on fire.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.

Scripture to Meditate On

“For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you… For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” 2 Timothy 1:6–7
